Cali, one of the most beautiful cities of Colombia, makes not only dance lovers but also taste hunters truly happy. Platillos Voladores Restaurant which is established by the famous Colombian chef Vicky Acosta is one of the must-seen stops in Cali. Let me take you to a little journey in this restaurant.
While I was researching on the must-seen restaurants in Cali, I came across with Platillos Voladores Restaurant by Vicky Acosta. I wanted to visit and try their meals since there are lots of positive and assertive comments about this restaurant and whether these comments are true. When I shared this issue with my friend Isabel, she told me that friend of her, Marcela Ramirez, knows Vicky Acosta and she can arrange a meal together. After a couple of days we had this conversation, we found ourselves at Platillos Voladores Restaurant in an afternoon as Vicky Acosta’s special guests.
Located in a detached house, the restaurant is so cozy and chic in terms of ambiance. All the details on the walls and tables of the restaurant shows feminine characteristics due to the owner.
We were four people for lunch: Isabel, Marcela, a friend of Vicky and me. After we took our places, dear Vicky showed up. Having a small introducing session and conversation followed by deciding on what to try on menu. Everybody was confused due to lots of options. Seeing this confusion of us, Vicky offered that we can rely on her and she can serve us meals with different taste profiles. Each of us was satisfied with this deal. It was all about waiting, seeing what we are going to taste and just enjoying! Here are the meals we found the chance to try.
While we were waiting, “Carantanta”, “Chontaduro” and “Chontaduro Rolls” came as appertizers. Carantanta, as corn being the main ingredient, is an appertizer that gives you a little bit of chill and served with peanut sauce. Chontaduro is a fruit which looks like pumpkin. Being served with honey and salt, this fruit has a strong taste. It might not be for everyone to be liked. I prefer Chontaduro Rolls because it is fried and the fruit is used in mashed form.
After trying our appetizers, we continued with some soup. Vicky served us Baudo which contains pasta, salted cheese and fish of the day. I really suggest you to try this delicious soup which got full five stars from us.
With great appetite finishing our soups, we immediately started to think what is the next plate we are going to get. After this marvelous fish, what would be our next flavor bomb? While these type of questions were provoking our minds, we had Encocado which also contains fish. Prepared with fish and sweet plantain, this meal was looking and tasting good.
After two courses with fish, we met with Pollo Guayaba, which is based on chicken. Beside the chicken, containing arracacha, guayaba and regular-yellow potatoes, this meal is also really delicious and looking perfect. One of the most delicious couples: Chichens enriched by sauce and mashed potatoes
Before desserts, our last course is Quinoa. Quinoa is prepared with plantain and spices, so it fits vegetarians well. Even I’m not a vegetarian, I really found this meal tasty and it is a good alternative to meat and fish courses.
Let’s come to the fun and sweet part: Desserts! During this lunch we had two types of desserts: Passion Fruit Dessert and Choco with Coconut. I have to say that even I’m a chocoholic, I started with the non-chocolate dessert. Choco with Coconut was really great and I can say that it really satisfies the chocoholics. But I want to make an emphasis on this Passion Fruit dessert.
This special dessert is made out of the peels of Passion Fruit. Well, you read it right, the peel of the fruit. Peels being cooked with a special technique are served with ice-cream, pink pepper and passion fruit jam. The best way to put a dot to such amazing lunch is to have such an amazing dessert like Passion Fruit dessert. It should be a must-have on your list of Platillos Voladores Restaurant.
When we finished with our lunch accompanied by a light-tasted wine, there were good tastes left on our minds and taste buds. By this lunch opportunity I fully understood that a good restaurant can be managed by an expert chef. If you visit Cali and have a nice meal, Platillos Voladores Restaurant is truly yours.
